Hawaiians are renowned for their grace, good nature and happy disposition. Part of the many ways Hawaiians maintain their well-being is continual cleansing and being pono (in balance) with the world. To cleanse is to purify. One must purify the physical body as well as the mental, emotional and the spiritual. This is archieved through daily pule (prayer), forgiveness, massage, herbal medicine, fasting, going into the ocean and being one with nature. When Hawaiian people are very ill some seek help from Kahuna (healers), to simply be still and ask na akua (gods) to help is a divine intention to heal.
