PreviewAloha Guests and Blog Followers!  I thought it may be fun to make a list of some useful Hawaiian words… test them out, use them while on the island, it will get you into the Hawaiian Spirit!

– (a LOW ha) hello, good-bye, love,
kindness, friendship

-hale –-(HAH lee) house
-heiau – (HEY ow) ancient Hawaiian temple
-hui– (HOO’ ee) club or group
-kahuna– (ka HOO and) an elder, wise person
-kalua– (ka LOO a) to roast underground, like kalua pig
-kai – the sea
-kama‘aina – (ka ma EYE na) a native
-kane – (KA neh) man
-kapu – (KA poo) forbidden, keep out
-keiki – (KAY kee) child
-kona– (KOH na) leeward side of the island
-lani – (LAH nee) heavens, sky
-lomilomi – (low me low me) massage
-mahalo – (ma HA lo) thank you

-makai – (ma KAI) ocean side
-mauka– (MOW ka) towards the mountains-menehune– Kauai’s legendary little people & builders

-nani – (NA nee) beautifulohana –

-(o HA na) family

-ono – (OH no) delicious

-pali – (PA lee) cliff, precipice
-paniolo – (pa nee O lo) cowboy
-pau– (pow) finished, done
-puka – (POO ka) hole
-wahine – (wa HEE neh) woman,wife
-wikiwiki – hurry up
